The Year Two teacher is Mrs White and Mrs McDougall supports in our classroom everyday.
As the oldest children on the Sheerhatch Willington site, we take our role as positive role models seriously. We work hard to set a good example for the younger children by showing them how to be ‘Ready, Respectful and Safe’.
Throughout the year, we build on our early writing skills and develop our ability to write clear, interesting sentences. We explore a wide range of exciting genres, allowing us to develop our vocabulary, creativity and confidence as writers.
In maths, we work hard to develop our quick recall of number facts and build a secure understanding of place value. We use this knowledge to solve a range of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division problems. We have lots of practical resources to help us understand mathematical concepts, including Base 10 equipment, ten frames, part-whole models and Numicon. We also explore measurement, fractions (including wholes, halves, quarters and three-quarters) and time.
Our learning extends beyond English and maths, with lots of exciting opportunities in history, science, geography, art and DT. Learning is always fun and informative, and we have some fantastic topic days and trips planned throughout the year.
We also thoroughly enjoy our regular sessions in the fantastic Forest School area at the Cople site, where we can explore, investigate and learn outdoors.
We are looking forward to a busy, exciting and rewarding year in Year Two!
