We are delighted to announce that Sheerhatch Primary School has made its initial pledge to become a LEAF Demonstration School, marking an exciting step in our commitment to outdoor learning, sustainability and environmental education.

Our chosen pledge is:

“We pledge to give every child regular opportunities to learn, explore and grow through nature.”

This pledge reflects our school ethos of “Inspiring Individuals, Growing Thriving Communities” and our belief that every child should have opportunities to connect with the natural world, develop curiosity and understand their responsibility for protecting our planet.

Throughout the 2026–2027 academic year, we will be working towards achieving the LEAF Bronze Level Award, which focuses on turning our pledge into meaningful, practical experiences for children.

Our journey will include:

Outdoor Learning: Increasing opportunities for children to explore and learn within our beautiful rural surroundings.
Growing Together: Developing planting areas where children can grow flowers, fruit and vegetables.
Supporting Wildlife: Creating habitats that encourage biodiversity across our school grounds.
Learning About Food and Farming: Helping children understand where food comes from and the importance of sustainable farming.
Pupil Leadership: Empowering children to lead environmental initiatives and make positive changes.
Community Partnerships: Working with families, local organisations and farmers to enrich children's experiences.

Through our Forest School opportunities, outdoor learning spaces and curriculum development, we aim to inspire children to become confident, environmentally responsible individuals.

The LEAF Bronze Award will provide an opportunity to celebrate our progress, reflect on our achievements and identify how we can continue developing.

We look forward to sharing our journey with our whole school community as we learn, grow and work together towards a greener, more sustainable future.
