Sustainability

From September 2025, the Department for Education (DfE) requires every school to have a Sustainability Action Plan.

This plan is designed to help schools set out clear steps towards reducing their environmental impact.  It places sustainability at the heart of school life, from how we use energy to how we care for our grounds.

The requirement supports the government’s wider strategy for tackling climate change and protecting natural resources.  Primary schools are encouraged to involve pupils, staff, governors, and the wider community in shaping their plans.

The DfE highlights the importance of linking this work to the curriculum, ensuring children develop a strong understanding of environmental responsibility.  Schools will be expected to review progress regularly and show how they are making improvements year by year.

At Sheerhatch Primary, we welcome this focus and look forward to implementing our plan that inspires our children and community to care for the planet.
