Otters

The Year Two teachers are Mrs Meershoek on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and Mrs Carter on Thursday and Friday. As the oldest children on the Willington site, they make sure that they set a good example by showing the younger children how to live the Sheerhatch values.

Over the year, learning is organised around broad topics which provide lots of exciting learning directions.

The year begins with ‘How are you?’ During this topic, the children learn about how health care has changed over time and about the influences of figures such as Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole. Next is ‘The Magic Toymaker’. This will give the opportunity to investigate materials whilst learning about toys, old and new.

Spring takes us to the rainforest where children will learn all about the habitat that it provides and how humanity is impacting this. They will produce some amazing rainforest art and weaving. This will then lead into a topic about creepy crawlies, learning about life cycles and creating moving mechanisms.

Our exciting topic for the summer term is ‘Hooray, Let’s Go on Holiday!’ where the children will continue to learn all about holidays in the past and present using their history and geography skills and knowledge and further developing their understanding of the world.

Topic Overviews and Knowledge Organisers

The topic overviews give a brief snapshot of what will be studied in each topic- these are intended as information for parents and guardians. Knowledge organisers are used from Year One upwards: they contain the ‘sticky knowledge’ of a topic and are used by the children for reference and recall. In Key Stage One, these are used for history, geography and science. Once Key Stage Two begins, the range of knowledge organisers is expanded.
