Foxes

Hi! We are Foxes class and our teacher is Miss Warwick. She works on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. We also work alongside the Year Four class, Badgers, with Miss Mills on Thursdays and Fridays.

Miss Warwick really enjoys seeing the activities you do at home as part of your learning log homework so you will have something to do each week. It’s really important to do these to the best of your ability to help with your learning in school. You can be really creative and present your work in different ways! And of course, we will continue with TTRockstars so keep up with that too! Let’s see if we can be really good TT superstars and earn those badges! We will also have a weekly spelling check so you will have a list of words to practise, and don’t forget to read a little to a grown up each day.

In Year Three, if you want a fruit snack at playtime you will need to bring one of your own and don’t forget to bring your named water bottle.

Learning over the year is primarily arranged around topics that give lots of scope for developing knowledge and linking learning. Here is a brief rundown of the Year Three topics:

Autumn term begins with ‘Rivers Deep, Mountains High’. During this topic, children will develop their geography skills whilst also learning about Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay’s famous ascent of Mount Everest. The second half of the term focuses on the way of life and developments during the Stone and Iron ages; exciting stories will be written using this knowledge.

In the Spring the children will encounter the endlessly-fascinating and ever-popular topic of the Vikings before rocking out with some geology in the second half of the term. They will learn about the different kind of rocks and how these, and fossils, are formed.

The Summer term begins with a venture into cartography during the Map Makers topic and winds up with a foray into the rich local history of Willington and Cardington.

Topic Overviews and Knowledge Organisers

The topic overviews give a brief snapshot of what will be studied in each topic- these are intended as information for parents and guardians. Knowledge organisers are used from Year One upwards: they contain the ‘sticky knowledge’ of a topic and are used by the children for reference and recall. In Key Stage One, these are used for history, geography and science. Once Key Stage Two begins, the range of knowledge organisers is expanded.
